We’re often guilty of getting a little geeky around here, and that’s a label we wear with pride! After all, the world of bartending is home to some of the most interesting, inspiring, and innovative creations –and nowhere is this more apparent than in the books written on hospitality.

In the Master Distiller’s Book Club, we’ll be exploring some of Jared Brown’s favourite books in audio form, with a weekly podcast that offers helpful takeaways, unique insights and tasty tipples. Through his career as a drink historian, writer and Master Distiller for Sipsmith Gin, Jared has walked in the footsteps of the greats and documented the journeys taken by luminaries like Harry Johnson, whose synonymous book ‘Harry Johnson’s Bartenders’ Manual’ is the focal point of our first three episodes.

If you don’t have a copy of Harry Johnsons Bartenders’ Manual, don’t worry. Jared’s passion for storytelling and books can be found in the EUVS Vintage Cocktail Books online library, created by Jared and his wife Anistatia Miller, where you can grab your own digital copy of Harry Johnson’s Bartenders Manual, alongside the other books we’ll be covering throughout this series.

First printed in 1882 as the New and Improved Bartenders’ Manual, or How to Mix Drinks in the Present Style, this book was one of the first of its kind for documenting how to survive and thrive in the industry – we’ve chosen to highlight the 1900’s edition. Listen to the podcast, read through our helpful index of key points, read the book, and follow along on Instagram for your chance to ask Jared your own questions.
